the Butt Cake

Not sure what to say about this one, other than it is a butt cake.  The idea for this cake actually started out as a joke - a hilarious birthday cake for a friend of my hubby's.  When I mentioned that I could really do a butt cake, it was a joke no more.  For anyone who wants to re-create, message me on Facebook (sweet celebrations) and I'll provide you with 'how to' info.

Here it is in all it's naked glory:

Garden Cake

This was a surprise 60th bday cake for a guy who loves Hawaiian shirts, is a U of Miami fan (hat), loves to read, is an avid gardener, is a world traveler (book-"Europe"), studies brain mapping (book title) and just planted a Sequoia tree from seed (the little seedling and sign in the garden says Sequoia). Phew! Got all that incorporated.

12x12 carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.  YUM!

Tiffany Blue Bling Cake!

Just a few pictures of the cake I put together for my own birthday!   Each tier is covered with fondant.  The bottom tier has buttercream stenciling, middle tier has fondant ruffles and satin ribbon, top tier is fondant with buttercream dots.

The bottom tier is a dummy.  Believe it or not, dummy tiers are harder to work with (for me at least) because they are so light and slide around.  I suppose that could be avoided by adhering it to a cake board, but that wasn't possible with this stand.

Here are the pics.  When we take it apart I'll take some pics to show the inner supports.  Planning to put a stacking tutorial up on my facebook page soon (SweetCelebrations).

Shabby Chic Little Ruffle Cake

I've been waiting for the perfect occasion to try out this new technique I have seen so much recently - the ever so pretty ruffle cake! My very good friend has a birthday this week (which I forgot about until Monday - eeek!). I somehow managed to create this cute little cake on Tuesday night and get it to her on Wednesday, just in time for her birthday. Love how it turned out. This was my signature white almond cake, layered with chocolate buttercream and covered in vanilla buttercream ruffles. Take a look!

Pocket watch birthday cake

Brendan just turned 9 and apparently really likes cool old things, like pocket watches.  His grandmother lives next door to me and came over a few weeks ago to ask whether I could create a pocket watch cake for Brendan's birthday - which was on Christmas Eve. I knew I had the date open, but I was somewhat stumped when I started of thinking of how to incorporate a pocket watch into a cake design.  Brendan's grandparents had purchased a pocket watch for his birthday gift and gave me photos to work from.  A pocket watch and the number 9 highlighted somewhere on the cake so it stands out - the rest was up to me.

I made Brendan's pocket watch out of gumpaste, using food coloring markers for the details and Styrofoam for the inside structure.  The cake is my signature chocolate with cookie cream filling, topped off with vanilla buttercream.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENDAN!

Downhill Ski Cake ~ Happy 60th Birthday Joe!

Joe turned 60 this year.  He is an avid skier and his daughter thought an Over the Hill Downhill Skiing cake would be the perfect thing to surprise him with for his birthday!

Now, how exactly does one make a ski mountain out of gumpaste?  After much thought, I figured that a base of Rice Kirspie Treats might just work - here is the beginning of a ski mountain:

Sort of looks like a ski mountain, right?

AND, here are the pics of the cake...ahhhh....now it looks like a ski mountain :)

A sophisticated cake for a special birthday celebration

Joanne left the design of her birthday cake up to me - anything was okay as long as it said "Happy Birthday".  She requested a chocolate cake with cannoli filling  and vanilla buttercream.  I've been waiting for an occasion to try making Cornelli Lace and figured this would be the perfect opportunity.

All the designs on this cake are hand pipped buttercream.  I used pastel green sugar pearls to match the writing to add a sophisticated touch.  Take a look:

Here is a close up photo of the hand pipped cornelli lace and pastel green sugar pearls...

Hot Pink & High Heels!

Seriously, how cute is this cake!?

This is Jenny's Birthday cake and what girl wouldn't love it - pink, more pink and a high heel shoe!  This cake was so much fun to make and I am thrilled with how the zebra stripe cake board turned out (and yes, it is food safe).

Here is an upclose photo of the fondant shoe...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNY!!! ENJOY YOUR CAKE AND PARTY!!

Chocolate Stout Cake.....yum! Yum! YUM!

Mmmmmmmmm.....this really is the most delicious thing ever.  Chocolate Stout Cake with Mocha Mascarpone Frosting.  Does it get any better than this?  ...chocolate, beer, mocha....I think not.
Thanks Christy for introducing me to stout cake and sharing your recipe!
