Lydia's birthday party had a Very Hungry Caterpillar theme. Her mom and I have been discussing her cake for weeks....or maybe even since Charlie's first bday party last August. For her cake, I made a Caterpillar cake topper and whimsical First Birthday sign. I also made the fruit, leaf, and sugary treats that the Caterpillar takes a bite out of throughout the story. The cake topper ended up being so heavy that I had to use wooden dowel supports inside the cake to bear the weight! Phew...it made it to the party in one piece and didn't collapse! If you've never read the Hungry Caterpillar Book - I think Lydia and my Charlie would highly recommend it!!
