I made this cake for a very good friend of mine to celebrate her buying her first home. This is my first ever Red Velvet cake and first ever cake with scroll work. *****
The frosting and the scroll work are buttercream. Though I didn't make the traditional icing that goes with Red Velvet (with nuts and coconut), the buttercream layer between the cake layers has finely chopped walnuts and flakes of coconut - yum!
This cake comes from my Southern Cakes cookbook and I've been wanting to make it for quite some time... Since it's Sonia's favorite, I figured that this was the perfect occasion!
